Amanda Scott – Director of Student Wellbeing at Geelong Grammar School.
An educator with over twenty-five years’ teaching experience, Amanda Scott has been the Director of Student Wellbeing at Geelong Grammar School since January 2016. The role is a complex leadership position that oversees the pastoral care of over 500 boarders and about one hundred day students in the Senior School (Years 10-12); the staffing of ten Houses, as well as liaising with the Head of Middle School (Years 5-8); and the wellbeing staff at the Kennedy Health Centre, including counsellors. In addition, Amanda still enjoys a teaching load, with a Year 12 Literature (IB) class and a Year 10 English class this year, and she is the TIC of Debating at GGS.
Previously, Amanda was a Head of House at Girton Grammar School in Bendigo for many years; she has taught at an International School in Düsseldorf, Germany and a selective girls’ boarding school in England – the Downe House School. She began her career at Wesley College, Melbourne in 1992. Amanda completed her M. Ed from Melbourne University in Student Wellbeing in 2011.
A full-time boarder herself for seven years at school, Amanda has a passion for boarding and for student wellbeing, and she feels very privileged to be working in her current position, which she still describes as her “dream job”. She lives on campus at Geelong with her husband, two daughters (aged 16 and 13) two cats and one dog. For recreation, Amanda likes to sing and play the piano with her musical family; she loves to travel and she enjoys walking, swimming and dancing, especially the tango.
